WebFeb 20, 2024 · First, the lower bearing between the rudder stock and the shoe is worn. I suspect the bronze is worn. Mine was worn out in 15 years. I poured a new epoxy/graphite bearing into the skeg using a suitable mandrel as a form. Lasted until I sold the boat 3 yrs ago. Before welding wrap the gear case with water soaked rags to protect it from heat.
