Loss and validation loss have high difference
Web14 de out. de 2024 · While validation loss is measured after each epoch Your training loss is continually reported over the course of an entire epoch; however, validation metrics are computed over the validation set only once the current training epoch is completed. This implies, that on average, training losses are measured half an epoch earlier. WebTraining and validation set's loss is low - perhabs they are pretty similiar or correlated, so loss function decreases for both of them. Then relation you try to find could by badly represented by samples in training set and it is fit badly. I would check that division too. Web3 de ago. de 2024 · Maybe try linear models with high regularization. You are looking for poor performance (but better than random) on the training set and similar performance on the validation set. Then you can start trying more complex models that fit the training set better and maybe generalize to the validation set a bit better, too. Web6 de ago. de 2024 · Validation loss value depends on the scale of the data. The value 0.016 may be OK (e.g., predicting one day’s stock market return) or may be too small (e.g. predict the total trading volume of the stock market). To check, you can see how is your validation loss defined and how is the scale of your input and think if that makes sense. Web14 de abr. de 2024 · However, looking at the charts, your validation loss (on average) is several orders of magnitude larger than the training loss. Depending on what loss you are using, there should typically not be this big of a difference in the scale of the loss. Consider the following: Make sure your validation and training data are preprocessed identically.
Web23 de jul. de 2024 · Validation loss (as mentioned in other comments means your generalized loss) should be same as compared to training loss if training is good. If your validation loss is lower than the... Web26 de dez. de 2024 · The validation loss will typically be higher than the training loss, however, since not all patterns generalize, as you can see in the following graphic. If validation loss decreases as well, the learned patterns seem to generalize. Bias Bias is defined as the average squared difference between predictions and true values.
Web8 de jan. de 2024 · In my case, I do actually have a consistent high accuracy with test data and during training, the validation "accuracy" (not loss) is higher than the training accuracy. But the fact that it never converges and oscillates makes me think of overfitting, while some suggest that is not the case, so I wonder if it is and what is the justification if it is not. …
