WebJul 4, 2024 · The purpose of this study was to apply, for the first time, derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) to characterize a residual solvent and a drug in poly-d,l-lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) microspheres. Ethyl formate, an ICH class 3 solvent, was used to encapsulate progesterone into microspheres. Webanalyzing the sample are weight, rate of weight change—differential thermogravimetry, and temperature. A differential thermogravimetry curve—DTG—is generated as the first derivative of the weight with respect to temperature or time. The DTG curve can be used to provide both qualitative and quantitative information about the sample.
